ZINC AND PVC COATED WIRE MESH

TENSILE STRENGTH
tensile strength of 38-50 kg/mm2 according to EN 10223-3. Above values
are referred to wire before manufacturing mesh.
ELONGATION
shall not be less than 10%.
ZINC COATING
minimum quantities of zinc meet the BS 443/82 and exceed the ASTM A641-71
A, DIN 1548, QQ-W-461 H. |
ZINC ADHESION
the adhesion of the zinc coating to the wire should be such that, when the
wire is wrapped six turns round on a mandrel having four times the diameter
of the wire, it does not flake or crack when rubbing it with the bare fingers.
PVC COATING
In aggressive environments (2<pH<13) in addition to the galvanization,
the steel wire can be coated with a PVC sheath of a nominal thickness of 0.50
mm.

IMPORTANCE OF THE WIRE MESH QUALITY
Any lacing
procedure is made along the border of the gabion base panels. This means that
the most critical point of a gabion structure is the joints between the different
portions of the same wire mesh base panel and between adjacent units.
All the existing international specifications make reference to a “edging” and “selvedging” wire
with a diameter bigger of the one’s of the mesh totally inglobed in the wire
mesh. In particular the selvedging wire has to be totally wrapped by the cut
portion of the wire mesh: this result cannot be obtained with a manual operation,
but only by a mechanical industrial production.

GABIONS
Gabions are rectangular cages made of hexagonal double-twist wire mesh
filled with appropriately sizes cobbles or quarry stones. In order to
reinforce the structure, all edges are selvedged with a wire having greater
diameter.
The gabion is divided into cells by means of diaphragms positioned at
1 m centres |
